Andy Dunn previews the Manchester derby

When we last caught up with Andy Dunn we picked his brain about today’s Manchester Derby, which is surely one of the most anticipated games of the season.

See what he had to say about the match and his predictions for the Barclays Premier League in the video above.

City’s rise will be the final straw for the dominance of the “Big Four”

By Sam Cooper

The Premier League has come under much scrutiny over it’s twenty year life span. But no subject has raised more arguments than the dominance of the “Big Four.”  There are facts that back up the argument that the Premier League will always be a four horse race. Since Blackburn’s successful league campaign in 1994-95, there have only been three league title winners. Those of course being Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Read More »

Barclays Premier League still top prize

By Casey O’Brien

From the moment the names were drawn from the pot in Monaco back in August, this was the fixture Manchester City had been waiting for. Bayern Munich at the Etihad marked a huge moment of progress for a club haunted by its shortcomings for over three decades. No longer did City have to wait for invitational pre-season tournaments to face Europe’s elite. Finally, they were competing with the biggest of boys on the biggest of stages.

But as Stephane Lannoy got last night’s fixture under way, it wasn’t quite nail-biting tension or uncontrollable excitement that consumed the Eastlands crowd. Instead, a feeling of polite resignation loomed over the 46,000 faithful. Of course, City knew their chances of progression were slim, but there was another factor at work here. City are learning to walk before they run, and for the fans especially, the Champions League remains a novel adventure.  It is the Premier League that is truly shaping Roberto Mancini’s reign. Long way to go as season reaches second checkpoint

By Douglas Elder

So, as the Premier League breaks for a fortnight, we are left with an interesting – if unfamiliar – picture at the top of the Barclay’s Premier League. The mid-season assumptions, the hyperbolic descriptions and the doom-mongering are in full swing, and here is my take on what has been a season of ups (not if you’re a Wigan fan) and downs (not if you’re a Newcastle or a Man City fan).

A Manchester side top the league, but this time it is those “noisy neighbours” Manchester City who look down upon old rivals Manchester United, still bearing the scars of a chastening 6-1 home defeat to City two weeks ago. This weekend, after United defeated struggling Sunderland with more efficiency than effervescence, the City juggernaut – an irresistible force at times – eventually overcame QPR, who did their best impression of an immovable object. Barclays Premier League Power Shift

By Dan Webster

“Suicidal football” is not a phrase often used in describing a Manchester United performance. Those were the words, however, that manager Sir Alex Ferguson chose to describe his side’s display at Old Trafford on Sunday. There is no doubt that their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Manchester City will have been a shock to the system for both Ferguson and his players, but just how significant is it in terms of the Premier League’s power balance? Silva shines brightly over Blue Moon with display of pure gold

By Jordan Halford

Manchester’s autumnal skyline will be shimmering with the aurora of a blue moon this evening, as the Moss Side celebrates Manchester City’s biggest win against their closest rivals at Old Trafford since 1926.

Roberto Mancini’s side brought United’s 19-game winning run at the Theatre of Dreams to a shuddering halt in emphatic and merciless fashion to not only extend their lead atop the summit to five points, but also assert their credentials as genuine title contenders. Read More »

This is the one

By Allan Valente

Time has an invariable habit of changing things. Some people use it as a healer, while others grumble at a loss of youth as the clock ticks away mercilessly.

It certainly has been kind to Manchester City. Little more than a decade ago fans from the blue half of the city would head out every other weekend to parts unknown to watch their team compete in the third tier of English football. On Sunday they will travel the short distance to Old Trafford for a top of the table clash with their greatest rivals. Read More »

A champion team vs a team of champions?

By Glen Walter

Manchester City stormed to the summit of the Barclays Premier League at the weekend with a convincing victory over previously unbeaten Aston Villa, which has set up one of the most eagerly anticipated Manchester derbies to date.

City go into the game knowing only a loss can prevent them remaining in top spot, and they will be sure to put up a fight against their fiercest rivals to ensure they finish the coming weekend where they started it, smiling down on all the other 19 teams in the league. Read More »

Brilliant Balotelli Blasts the Sky Blues to the Top of the League

By George Adams

Only a few seasons ago this fixture would have been a game between two equally matched teams jostling for the 6th position in the league, now, with Man City as odds on favourites and Villa looking likely to drop into mid table obscurity it is a paradigm for the directions the two clubs have travelled in.
